Only a surgeon should be allowed to do the cosmetic nose surgery of a person. Surgeon should have aesthetic abilities and should preferably be a board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon. In addition to all these qualities the rhinoplasty procedure should be done with least possible trauma to the nose, no external incisions, match and blend all facial features, cause minimal pain and should be done only after the surgeon is satisfied that that a comfortable environment is given to the patient under the highest standards of safety.
Cosmetic nose surgery drastically changes the size, shape and appearance of the nose according to the needs of the patient. The sole objective of the surgeon is to create a natural looking nose which fits in accordance with the other facial features. The surgeon creates the nose by recontouring the nasal profile, reshaping the nasal tip and changing the angle between nose and upper lips. Hence, a person’s breathing problems can also be resolved due to all this reshaping and creating process.
The best candidate for rhinoplasty is that person who is atleast 13 years old or has finished facial growth or is healthy and fit to go through long process of reshaping of the nose.
Reshaping of your nose is done through small incisions made inside of your nose by rhinoplasty surgeon in such a way that they are not visible. If any such incisions are needed to be made outside the nose, the surgeon will make sure that they are well hidden.
Usually two techniques are used when performing the nose surgery. In closed rhinoplasty , incisions are made within the nostrils. In an open rhinoplasty, incision is made across the columella, the tissue between the nostrils. During both the methods surgeon generally lifts the soft tissues covering the nose and sculpts the bone and cartilage to the desired shape. Any additional cartilage needed to enhance the nose is taken from the septum. In some cases where the patient has a deviated septum, surgeons often adjust the septum and inner structures of nose to improve the breathing. Then, tissues are redraped and stitched close. The entire procedure generally lasts one to two hours.
After the rhinoplasty procedure is done, patients are send home with or without the packaging of the nose. Many doctors send the patients home without the packaging of the nose because they are of the opinion that packaging is not at all helpful and makes patients uncomfortable.
Post rhinoplasty, patients may suffer puffiness, a nose ache, dull headache, some swelling and bruising, bleeding and stuffiness for a short period of time. Most of the patients return to their work within a week after the surgery.
The results of rhinoplasty become gradually apparent as the days pass after the surgery and swelling decreases. Though, swelling may appear from time to time within the first year of the rhinoplasty. It is typically more apparent during the morning and fades as the day passes.
Revisionary or secondary rhinoplasty can also be done to correct the deformities caused by the previous one.
